Commercial cleaning checklist: daily, weekly and periodic tasks
A good commercial cleaning contract is built on a clear task list, with a frequency for each task. Here is the list we use as a starting point for offices, stores, clinics and daycares. It is then adapted to the traffic and needs of each space.

Daily tasks (or at every visit)
Entrance and common areas
- Clean the glass on entrance doors and remove fingerprints.
- Vacuum or mop the entrance and corridors.
- Shake out or vacuum the entrance mats.
Washrooms
- Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks and faucets.
- Clean the mirrors and dispensers.
- Restock paper, soap and hand towels (if agreed).
- Wash the floor.
Kitchenette
- Clean counters, sink and tables.
- Wipe the outside of the appliances.
- Wash the floor.
Offices and workstations
- Empty the garbage and recycling bins.
- Disinfect high-touch surfaces: handles, light switches, handrails, elevator buttons.
Weekly tasks
- Dust cleared desks, filing cabinets and ledges.
- Thoroughly vacuum carpets and rugs, including under accessible desks.
- Wash the hard floors in every room.
- Clean the inside of the microwaves and the outside of the refrigerator.
- Clean visible baseboards and doors.
Monthly tasks
- High dusting: light fixtures, air vents, tops of cabinets.
- Clean interior windows and glass partitions.
- Clean the inside of the kitchenette refrigerator (as agreed).
- Buff vinyl or linoleum floors.
Periodic tasks (seasonal or annual)
- Stripping and waxing of hard floors.
- Hot water extraction cleaning of carpets, especially after winter.
- Pressure washing of entrances, sidewalks and parking lots in the spring.
- Deep cleaning of low-traffic areas: warehouse, archive rooms, utility rooms.
How to choose the right frequency
A small office of fewer than 10 people can get by with a weekly or biweekly visit, while a clinic, a restaurant or a large office needs daily cleaning or several visits a week. The simplest approach is to start from this list and adjust it during a visit to your premises.
